The HMC Mental Health and Addiction Services department has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time PEER COUNSELOR/COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as a role model demonstrating resiliency in overcoming obstacles common to those with serious mental illness and is willing to share personal lived experience as appropriate
Assists consumers with identifying goals that promote recovery and resiliency and assist practitioners with identifying services and activities to help consumers reach those goals. Assists consumers with voicing interests and goals through appropriate channels
Leads and/or co-leads self-help support and education groups
Works in conjunction with all agency programs as part of the consumer’s treatment team
Assists consumers in their recovery by teaching independent living skills such as shopping, budgeting, meal preparation, accessing public transportation and establishing/maintaining community based natural supports
Performs outreach services
Attends relevant meetings
Provides coverage for other Peer Counselors
Maintains clinical and billing records, submits daily activity reports, and charts consumer contact in the electronic medical record as needed
Establishes and maintains record keeping/filing systems in support of the pre-vocational recycling program and individualized one-to-one support services
Operates office equipment such as computer, calculator, and copy/fax machines
Orders, receives, and maintains inventory of materials and supplies for various consumer support services
Performs other related duties as required
REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduation or equivalent and two years’ experience in a behavioral health organization or consumer/peer run organization; or equivalent education/experience.
AND
Peer Counselor Certification (Department of Behavioral Health and Recovery) OR Community Health Worker Certification (Department of Health)
AND
Within 7 days of employment and depending on job requirements: must apply for Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration/License with the State of WA (Dept of Health), and have obtained this credential within 60 days of hire (RCW18.19.210).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
May need a Washington State Drivers License
May need to obtain and maintain a Food Handler’s Permit
