Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations
The Southern Illinois University Foundation invites applications for the Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. The role of the Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations is to significantly grow philanthropic grant and sponsorship revenue from private foundations as well as corporations and their foundations. The position is responsible for executing a foundation relations, corporate giving, and corporate sponsorship strategy designed to build and strengthen partnerships with SIU. Responsible for identification of work and opportunities that might attract external support, and also responsible for responding to opportunities for external support (through RFPs, foundation guidelines, grant applications, etc.) Meet regularly with development officers for coaching sessions to identify top donor prospects in portfolio and highlight key moves management strategies for next 6-12 months. Integrate individual moves management processes so that team-based opportunities might be utilized. The successful candidate will be a member of the development staff and report to the CEO of the SIU Foundation. The salary for this position is commensurate with experience with both internal equity and external competitiveness.
- Utilize development team meetings to highlight upcoming opportunities for donor outreach/engagement and identify supports needed related to corporate and foundation giving.
- Strengthen understanding of supports/resources needed to achieve Foundation and individual professional goals.
- Orchestrate and execute the advancement of relationships with prospective donors through appropriate stages of qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship culminating in private philanthropic support.
- Responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of gifts to the SIU Foundation from corporations and foundations.
- Become familiar with and understand key initiatives of the university relating to faculty, students, instruction and research.
- Secure at least $1 million annually in new gifts and commitments for SIU.
- Prepare proposals and gift agreements as required for proper gift documentation.
- Ensure effective records maintenance, including timely filing of requests for prospect assignments, prospect strategies and contact reports using SIU Foundation's prospect management system (Blackbaud Raiser's Edge and Raiser's Edge NXT).
- Must be able to travel frequently and as needed to manage portfolio of corporate and foundation prospects. Travel, includes nights and weekends, is required.
- Use good judgment, diplomacy, maintain confidentiality and represent the university with tact and diplomacy at all times.
- Report regularly on the progress toward annual action plans.
- Protects confidential information.
- Other duties as assigned by the SIU Foundation CEO.
Requirements:
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years' successful professional fundraising experience. Experience with corporate and foundation fundraising, or equivalent experience in a grant-making organization. Well versed in advancement strategies including best practices related to development at institutions of higher education.
Preferred Qualifications: Documented success as a major gift officer in higher education. Capital campaign experience in higher education is highly desirable. Direct experience working with faculty leaders.
