About the Department
DELTA's role within the Office of the Provost is to advance the integration and support of learning technologies in NC State's academic programs and courses, both on campus and at a distance. DELTA supports distance-based credit programs and courses for the university, and provides enterprise academic technology and instructional support services for all modes of course delivery.
Working with NC State instructors and partners, DELTA leads the way in designing, creating, implementing and supporting extraordinary digital learning experiences for our community of learners. DELTA applies expertise in technologies and pedagogies to create and nurture innovative, effective and impactful digital learning experiences for our community of instructors and learners with a collaborative, service-oriented and innovative mindset.
Essential Job Duties
The Assistant Vice Provost (AVP) provides vision, strategy and leadership to promote the brand, products and services of Digital Education and Learning Technology Applications (DELTA), both within and outside the University, in support of the University's Strategic Plan.
Primary duties of the AVP include, but are not limited to the following:
Marketing, Communications and Partnerships:
Sets vision and strategy for marketing the DELTA brand, products and services, and oversees internal and external communication planning and implementation for the organization
Engages with external partners, including other organizational units at NC State and academic programs (both credit and non-credit), to develop and implement marketing initiatives, including but not limited to student recruitment, new business models and new program development; Consults with partners on marketing vision and strategy and manages support for implementation of marketing initiatives (credit and non-credit)
Proactively conducts and oversees market research to identify opportunities for the university, including but not limited to those related to new target audiences, employer needs or educational programming trends
Develops and implements plans to assess the effectiveness of marketing initiatives using key performance indicators and outcomes measures
Seeks innovative as well as existing, strategies, technologies and resources to increase efficiency and effectiveness in marketing, communications and both internal and external partnerships
Manages the advocacy, promotion and communications of DELTA's faculty services, programs, and articles that promote DELTA's work, and brand, both internally and externally.
Leadership:
Oversees DELTA's support and partnerships for non-credit educational activities
Develops strategic, data-informed marketing and communication plans for the organization
Provides high-level strategic, organizational leadership as a member of DELTA's senior management team
Manages a marketing and communication team, and collaborates with leaders of DELTA's creative/new media team to set the strategic vision, direction and priorities for in-house production - Manages budget for internal and external marketing and communications
Other Responsibilities

Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a relevant post-Baccalaureate degree with a minimum of five (5) years or greater of related professional experience, or a relevant undergraduate degree and a minimum of five (5) years or greater of relevant experience in strategic marketing management, operations, business and vendor management.
Other Required Qualifications
Minimum of five years proven executive level leadership marketing and communications experience, identification and development of new educational target audiences and program development experience
Minimum of five years experience with marketing budget and team/staff management; knowledge of emerging technologies.
An understanding of the educational mission of higher education in today's world
Knowledge of relevant market research technologies with a proven minimum of five (5) years market research in new program development
Five years experience in managing digital marketing and communications strategies, emerging technologies and their applications in online and digital education
Demonstrated ability to build, develop and effectively lead in a matrix organization and team environment
Proven experience as a strategic leader with a keen ability to synchronize the dynamic worlds of digital marketing and social media, with the ability to lead the development and creation of content, manage vendor partnerships, and grow brand awareness in targeted channels
High level of independence and self-directed initiative; and the proven ability to interface successfully with internal university departments and external partners
Proven experience identifying, developing and implementing strategic educational partnerships.
Preferred Qualifications
Eight years of higher education senior marketing and communications management and leadership experience; a proven record of success in strategic planning and partnership development at the state, national and international levels
A masters degree with a minimum of ten years or greater of related professional experience, or doctoral degree and a minimum of five years related experience
Experience in marketing, partnership development and communications in a higher education setting, including a marketing organizations finance and business operations requirements in higher education
