Resource Development Manager
Job Summary
The Resource Development Manager has a vital role in supporting the operations and strategic objectives of National PTA. The Resource Development Manager is expected to contribute meaningfully to the department's annual revenue targets. This position fields and develops new transactional business opportunities, which includes short-term contracts, supporting sponsorships of PTA initiatives, and corporate branding opportunities. This position also solicits National PTA's sponsored revenue generation for all PTA meetings, including the PTA Convention & Expo (June), the Legislative Conference (March), and other meetings with sponsorship opportunities, and upsells certain existing lines of business, such as advertising and exhibits. This position works closely with the Corporate Alliances & Stewardship Manager to ensure that the expectations for key sponsors and collaborators are met.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Duties are illustrative and may vary with individual assignments.)
Business Development (60% of time):
- Cultivate new supporting sponsorships, short-term (project specific) contracts, and other transactional business in support of PTA programs, policy work, and other initiatives; prepare proposals, deliver verbal and visual presentations, and produce all manner of materials needed to effectively support the contract process. Serve as the relationship lead for new agreements.
- Respond to all assigned sales leads and research each lead via discovery process to identify best PTA avenues to achieve their specific objectives and create a win-win scenario that results in repeat and/or expanded investment over time.
- Research consumer and school-family markets to identify sales leads and nurture relationships with corporations not currently doing business with National PTA.
- Organize and maintain documentation (research, call notes, contact information) about leads and ongoing sales effort.
- Works closely with various departments to ensure that all contractual obligations are met on time and satisfactorily.
- Works closely with the Resource Development Specialist to ensure fulfillment of communications assets connected with contracts.
- Performs related duties as required.
National PTA Meetings (40% of time):
- Support and execute the strategy for revenue generation for all PTA meetings - Convention, Legislative Conference, and other National PTA national or regional trainings or convenings.
- Incorporate innovative revenue generating ideas that reflect industry best practices and attendee interests and demands to supplement the revenue from PTA's core sponsors
- Works closely with the Resource Development Specialist to ensure fulfillment of all sponsor-related deliverables as they related to PTA meetings.
- Serve as staff lead for the Resource Development team for the Convention and Legislative Conference cross-department planning teams; first responder to all incoming calls & emails regarding sponsor and marketing opportunities at PTA meetings; market to new companies and organizations to attract new sponsors and cultivate new revenue sources; ensure that the sponsored revenue goal for PTA meetings is met.
- Manage exhibit sales process (set-up, training, implementation) and exhibitor/sponsor registration vendor (a2z) including maintaining the website and other technology platforms throughout the sales process.
- Provide excellent customer service as the main point of contact for all current and prospective event sponsors, ensure continuous communication with registered sponsors, and answer all questions.
Develop and share regular updates to staff planning teams for all meetings.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in relevant years of experience is required.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in association sales, fundraising, corporate relations, business development, and/or account management is required.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are required.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail is required.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines is required.
- Innovative and creative thinker with proven track record in a traditional environment.
- General knowledge and understanding of meeting and event planning principles, requirements, and procedures.
- Confident and well-spoken. Ability to work well with National PTA staff, board volunteers, and leadership, as well as potential corporate contributors.
- Ability to work independently while keeping supervisor apprised of opportunities, issues, problems, and progress.
- Working knowledge of computers, preferably in a PC, windows-based operating environment. Mastery of MS Office is required (in particular: Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to travel occasionally for job-related duties, including overnight and weekends.
