Description of Work
A Family Counselor, under general supervision, performs evidence-based practices according to nationally-recognized standards related to the delivery of services to youth involved in the juvenile justice system. An employee in this class writes initial assessments that accurately build on strengths and deficits resulting in a DSM diagnosis. These assessments will include a history of mental health treatment, relevant family history, and current treatment recommendations. The Family Counselor ensures that all documentation of client contact and treatment services is complete, thorough, and accurate, to meet all agency, state, and professional standards. The Family Counselor works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to help plan and implement a course of treatment that may include any of the following as indicated: behavioral support plan, counseling plan, skill coaching, staff/family training, and additional support services. Treatment plans will be designed to lead to meaningful, objective outcomes, and treatment monitoring will occur regularly. The Family Counselor will train individuals receiving services/family/caregivers on skills needed and will perform other related duties as required.
Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications
At the time of application, an applicant must:
- Possess a Master’s degree from an accredited/ CACREP approved college or university in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling;
- A minimum of one year of post-graduate experience providing counseling;
- Must have a State of Michigan Temporary Limited License Psychologist license, Limited Licensed Masters Social Worker license, or Limited Licensed Professional Counselor license at time of appointment.
- Experience providing individual, family and group counseling, preferred.
- Previous experience/ training in CBT and/or other modalities
- Required to provide proof of limited or full license in one of the following areas: Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling.
