Finance Technician
- Summary
The primary duties of this classification include processing and troubleshooting payroll, maintaining benefits in accordance with various labor agreements, running reports, processing accounts payable, contract payments, employee expense claims and acting as the primary source for travel procedures and expenses. The incumbent will utilize both Oracle and PeopleSoft. Other duties include researching technical information from a wide variety of sources; performing medium to complex coding of financial, accounting and/or fiscal information and providing detailed information to internal and external agencies, vendors, or individuals in order to resolve discrepancies related to payroll, leave accruals, retirement issues, and accounts payable.
Who may apply: This position is open only to regular and temporary employees who are currently on the King County payroll.
Work location: This position is primarily located at the King County Courthouse in downtown Seattle.
Work schedule and terms: This is a full-time position working a 40-hour work week. The work week is normally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Variations from these hours may occur based on the needs of the Court. This position is non-exempt (hourly) from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime-eligible.

- Job Duties
The following duties are not intended to represent the entire functional capacity of the position at the task level:
- Perform medium to complex numerical calculations requiring the application of basic accounting methods and applications. Receive and disburse funds. Verify and reconcile data discrepancies, and monitor routine expenditures.
- Perform medium to complex coding of financial, accounting and/or fiscal information.
- Enter and/or verify financial, accounting and/or fiscal information following established clearly defined methods and guidelines.
- Track, modify and maintain data sources such as contracts, budgets, payroll, and/or other financial accounting or fiscal records and documents.
- Interpret established policies, procedures, codes, regulations, contracts and other relevant sources to internal and external customers.
- Research and summarize specialized or technical information. Compile, interpret, audit and analyze data that require information searches through files, contracts, records, microfilm, or computer files, including spreadsheets and/or customized database applications.
- Train and provide ongoing support to employees on payroll entry and with various fiscal-related forms.
- Draft and edit documents, contracts and correspondence.
- Process mailings and documents, and maintain security and confidentiality.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature and level.
- Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), and two (2) years' experience in accounting or bookkeeping, preferable in accounts payable and payroll. An Associate's degree in accounting and other business field preferred.
A successful candidate for this position will have both the ability and interest in providing excellent customer service and will demonstrate effective and professional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate policies and procedures clearly and accurately.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles primarily as they relate to accounts payable and payroll. Knowledge of general office policies, principles and practices. Able to organize and prioritize work; conduct research for specific work assignments; meet multiple and fluctuating deadlines; maintain confidentiality of sensitive matters; and determine validity of information received. The ideal candidate would be able to work both independently and in a team environment, and be flexible and innovative. Must be proficient with various computer software applications including Microsoft Office programs. Must have knowledge of and ability to learn specialized software applications.

Special requirements: Finalists must successfully pass a criminal background check and reference check. Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license or be able to travel throughout the County by alternate means.
