POSITION: Support Services Supervisor
LOCATION: Lucas County EMS Annex - 129 21st Street
WORK HOURS: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday (may vary) (Periodically available 24-hour on-call status) FLA: Exempt
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under direct supervision of the Emergency Services Director, or designee, this position works semi-independently performing support services for and related to all aspects of the emergency medical services department. Generally follows established policies, procedures and medical protocols in performing tasks and supervising Annex part-time staff. Reports to the Emergency Services Director for guidance and decisions needed beyond normal day to day procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Oversee and supervise the operations of the Lucas County EMS Annex to include part-time personnel, building, equipment and supplies. Assure the scheduling of part-time employees is timely done. Reports scheduling and personnel issues through the chain of command. Assign specific tasks to part-time Annex employees. Oversees and participates in the ordering, procurement and distribution of medications, medical equipment and supplies. May assist the medical Director and QA Coordinator in researching new medications and equipment. Maintain inventory of EMS medical supplies, medications, materials and equipment issued from the Lucas County EMS Annex.
Assist in developing life squad specifications. Schedule, coordinate, participate in public relations events as they pertain to pre-hospital care. Repair and/or coordinate vendor repair of medical, biomedical and training equipment. Maintain the back-up fleet of vehicles and coordinate repairs with the County EMS Garage and/or outside repair shops. Under the direction of the Emergency Services Director, advise the Medical Director and EMS staff on pre-hospital issues, i.e., supervise hospital exchange program. Implement the infection control program in the Lucas County EMS Annex. Available as needed for 24 hour call, via pager, radio or phone for the EMS system. Lift and move objects as needed. Drive EMS vehicles. Coordinate housekeeping duties at the Lucas County EMS Annex. Perform additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive, recognizing that pre-hospital medicine is subject to rapidly changing protocols, medications and equipment. Other knowledge, skills and abilities may be required/learned as medical technology changes. High school graduate or equivalent. Qualify as and maintain National Registry Paramedic, Ohio Certified paramedic and Lucas County EMS paramedic credentials. ACLS provider, CPR Provider, PALS provider, BTLS provider, PBTLS provider - must be completed as mandatory training per employer's schedule. Valid driver's license in the State of Ohio. Special Requirements: Pre-employment screening required including employment reference, criminal background check, fingerprints and possibly pre-employment drug testing. This position is regularly exposed to sensitive information and the incumbent is expected to keep any such information strictly confidential.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Four (4) years minimum as paramedic, six (6) years preferred. One (1) year minimum administrative experience, three (3) years preferred. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to supervise employees. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions. Ability to effectively communicate orally, in writing and interact with supervisors, elected officials, area fire chiefs, first responders and system vendor personnel. Ability to reason and carry out simple instructions. Ability to carry out detailed but basic written and/or oral instructions. Ability to work with minimum supervision. Ability to lift and move varying weights of up to one hundred (100) pounds. Ability to drive EMS vehicles.
