Description
CHARACTERISTICS OF WORK
This position is responsible for management and supervision in the Transportation Planning and Policy Division and performing complex professional engineering.

Supervise and review staff including hiring, terminating, evaluating performance of, approving time cards for and administering disciplinary actions to subordinate staff.
Organize and provide technical supervision of complex transportation planning activities.
Coordinate, oversee, and provide technical supervision to engineers and planners working on transportation studies.
Provide technical editing for published reports and documents pertaining to transportation planning produced within the Division.
Interact with planning and engineering personnel from other agencies and organizations as well as elected officials and public citizens.
Oversee production of reliable and accurate inventory and traffic data.
Represent the Department as an expert in matters involving transportation planning.
Minimum Requirements
Education and experience:
Possession of a current Arkansas license* to practice professional engineering. Multimodal transportation planning related experience. Experience and/or training in conducting transportation planning studies with a state or local planning organization.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Effective leadership and effective oral and written communication skills. Advanced organizational skills. Ability to interpret and apply Department policies and procedures. Ability to represent the Department in public, conduct meetings, and chair committee sessions. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Advanced knowledge of engineering practices and principles.

* The Department will consider applicants with Professional Engineering licenses from other states, with the condition that a reciprocal Arkansas license be obtained within 180 days of hire. Failure to obtain the Arkansas license within this time period may result in immediate termination. Candidates are responsible for verifying eligibility for reciprocity with the Arkansas PE Board before accepting a position.
